Lake Bled Boat Rental: Rowing Boats, Prices and Pletna Alternatives
Renting a rowboat on Lake Bled lets you row to the island on your own schedule. Here is what boats cost, where to launch, and how rentals compare with pletnas.
On this page
For a group of four, renting a rowboat on Lake Bled is the cheaper way to reach Bled Island, at a per-boat rate rather than a per-person fare. You row yourself across, land at the island stairs and stay as long as you like. A solo traveler doing the same pays more than they would for a pletna seat, so the best choice depends on your group size. This guide lays out rental prices by boat size, the boarding docks on the lake, and how rentals compare with the pletna boats and the electric boat line.
Two costs are easy to confuse. The boat fare covers transport only, and the church, bell tower and museum on the island have a separate entrance fee. Renting from the Pletna Boathouse in front of Čarman House is one route to a boat, though prices elsewhere vary. The sections below also name where pletna boats board and how the island stairs work.
What a Lake Bled boat rental gets you
A rental rowboat is a wooden boat you pilot yourself, with no rower and no schedule beyond the hours you have paid for. You cross to Bled Island, land at the island stairs and explore at your own pace. The trade-off is that you do the rowing, and you have to return the boat by the end of your booked time. For a family or a group of friends, that flexibility is the main appeal.
Bled's two main alternatives work differently. Pletna boats are rowed standing by a pletnar and charge per passenger, while self-rowed rentals charge per boat. A larger group splits a rental price several ways, which can bring the cost per head below a pletna seat. A solo traveler or a couple usually spends less by taking a pletna and leaving the rowing to the boatman.

Rental prices by boat size
At Charming Bled's Pletna Boathouse, a small boat for up to four people costs 25 euros for the first hour, and a big boat for up to six people costs 30 euros for the first hour. Each additional hour costs 15 euros regardless of boat size. The boats are rented at the Pletna Boathouse in front of Čarman House Bled.
Do the arithmetic before you decide. A six-person boat at 30 euros for the first hour works out to 5 euros per person, against a pletna fare that is charged to each passenger. A four-person boat at 25 euros is about 6 euros per head. The break-even point for a couple or a solo traveler is usually not there. Rowboat rental prices at other operators around the lake are not listed here; ask at the dock before you pay.

Where to pick up a rental boat and how to reserve
Charming Bled rents from the Pletna Boathouse in front of Čarman House Bled, and you can reserve in advance by email at the address listed on its page. Booking ahead matters most in high season, when boats go out early. Bring the booking details with you to the boathouse so the handover is quick.
Rental rates are quoted in euros, so plan how you will pay before you arrive. Arrive at the dock early in summer, when demand for boats is highest. Confirm the return time when you take the boat, because every extra hour is charged.
Rental versus the pletna boat
In 2026 the round-trip pletna fare is 20 euros per adult and 10 euros for children aged 4 to 12, paid in cash to the boatman. The round trip takes about 20 minutes each way and includes roughly 40 to 45 minutes of free time on the island. Pletna boats do not run to a minute-by-minute timetable; they fill up and go, usually with 12 to 20 passengers aboard.
A rental boat beats the pletna for a group of four or more on cost and on time. The pletna's 40 to 45 minutes on the island is enough to climb the stairs, see the church and ring the wishing bell, but not much more. With a rental you set your own pace, and you land at the island stairs, the main approach from the southern landing. The trade-off is the physical effort, and you should confirm how payment and any deposit are handled at the dock.
The electric boat line from the Bled center pier
An electric boat line also crosses to the island. It leaves Bled center at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00 and 18:00 and returns from the island at 11:20, 12:20, 13:20, 14:20, 15:20, 16:20, 17:20, 18:20 and 19:00. Your island visit has no time limit, and you can return with the first free pletna boat or with an electric motorboat.
A scheduled electric boat suits travelers who want a fixed departure and a set return time without rowing. It is a per-person service, so a couple or solo traveler does not pay for empty seats. The trade-off is less freedom than a rental: you are tied to the departure and return list. If your plans change, a rental boat lets you simply stay out longer.
What you pay on the island itself
The boat fare does not cover the island's sights. For 2026, entry to the Church of the Mother of God on the Lake, the lookout bell tower and the museum exhibition in the Provost's House costs 12 euros for adults, 10.50 euros for students, seniors and disabled visitors with proof, and 5 euros for children up to and including age 15. A family ticket is 24 euros, and groups of more than 20 people pay 10.50 euros each.
The church, the Potičnica and the gallery open at 8:30. Closing time ranges from 16:00 in January, February, November and December to 19:00 from May through September. In March the doors close at 17:00, and in April and October at 18:00. Check the current schedule on the island's website before you set out.
Where pletna boats board
Pletna boats leave from four docks: the Spa Park, in front of Park Hotel, Mlino and Velika Zaka. There are 23 pletna boats on the lake. Mlino, on the south shore, is the closest dock to the island and the shortest row, while the dock below Hotel Park in the main town is the longest and most scenic ride. Choose the dock nearest where you plan to spend the day, and see the Lake Bled Map to place them.
Each dock puts you on a different route, so think about where you will walk afterward. From the Spa Park or Hotel Park you step straight into the center for a meal; from Mlino you are on the quieter southern shore. From Velika Zaka you are near the rowing center at the western end. If your afternoon includes the lakeside paths, pick the dock that matches your route.
Practical points for rowing
Charming Bled's rental boats take up to four or six people, so agree on the group size before you reserve. Bring alternative payment in case card payment is not accepted at the dock. Wear shoes with grip for the 99 stone steps up from the southern landing, which are the main way to the island's center. A dry bag for phones and cameras is worth packing when you row.
Row with the island on one side and the shore on the other, and watch for pletna boats and the electric boat crossing from the center pier. If you have limited time, book one hour and see how far you get, then ask at the dock whether extending is possible. Going early gives you calmer water and more choice of boats.
Which boat to book
Book a rental if you are four or more and want to split the price and control your time. At Charming Bled's rates, a six-person boat for the first hour comes to 5 euros per person, below what six pletna seats would cost. Take the pletna if you are solo or a couple and want the rowing done for you, and the electric line if you want a fixed schedule. On the island, set aside the entrance fee for the church, tower and museum separately from the boat.
Bring cash for the pletna fares and the island fee, check the rental payment arrangements in advance, and match your dock to the rest of your day. Leave the car at the edge of town if you can, and walk the last stretch to the lake.
