Koper Parking: Garages, Lots, Prices and Payment Apps
Koper parking explained: which garages and lots sit near the old town, the cited rates and hours, and how EasyPark and SMS payment work.
On this page
For a short visit to Koper, head for the lots on the edge of the center: Tržnica inside the barriers, Ukmarjev trg or Trg Brolo, all within a few minutes' walk of the old town. Marjetica Koper manages the city's blue-marked short-stay spaces, the garages and the park-and-ride sites, and each lot runs on its own price list and schedule. This guide gives the published EUR rates and hours and explains payment by EasyPark, SMS or coin machine.
Where you can park in Koper: the short answer
Marjetica Koper manages more than 5,000 public parking spaces in the Municipality of Koper, marked in blue for short-term parking, plus garages under Koper Primary School and under Arena Bonifika and the newer Belveder parking house and P+R Sonce site. Payment is made before you park, according to the price list posted at each lot; the receipt is the parking ticket unless you pay by SMS parking or the EasyPark app, in which case the payment is logged in the operator's control system.
For orientation, the municipality points drivers who want to leave the car before entering the center toward the park-and-ride lots at the city entrance, with additional options in the underground garages, the lot next to Villa Domus and the Ferrarska gravel lot. Our guide to things to do in Koper covers the old town, the waterfront and the museums that fill a half day.

Parking close to the old town: Tržnica, Ukmarjev trg and Trg Brolo
Tržnica inside the barriers sits at Pristaniška ulica 2 and runs 24 hours a day, with the first 60 minutes free and each further hour charged; it is the closest large lot to the market hall and the old town lanes. Ukmarjev trg, at Ukmarjev trg 5, is also open around the clock but charges from the first hour at a higher rate, so it suits a quick stop rather than a long stay.
Trg Brolo, Vergerijev trg and the small lot behind the bank on Pristaniška ulica operate on day-only schedules, roughly from early morning to early evening, which means they are not an option for a late dinner. Vergerijev trg at Vergerijev trg 3 publishes two seasons: from 26 April to 29 September the first hour is charged, while from 30 September to 25 April the first 30 minutes are free before the hourly rate applies.
A separate cycling-tourism summary of Koper lots puts the average visitor rate at about 1 euro per hour and lists the market town, Stadium Bonifika and Pristaniška ulica as free on weekends and holidays. Treat that as orientation rather than a guarantee: the operator's per-lot schedules are what count, and weekend and holiday exemptions apply to specific lots, not to the whole city.

Garages and park-and-ride: OŠ Koper, Arena Bonifika, Belveder and P+R Sonce
The garage under Koper Primary School (Parkirna hiša OŠ Koper) at Cesta Zore Perello - Godina 1 is open 24/7 and charges a modest hourly rate from the first hour, a steady choice when the surface lots near the market are full. Arena Bonifika has its own garage; Belveder and P+R Sonce are the newest additions, listed by the municipality as easy access points for the main sights.
The commercial lots along Ankaranska cesta work differently: Park Center Koper at Ankaranska cesta 3 offers up to 180 minutes free during its weekday opening hours and is free on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, while Supernova 2 at Ankaranska cesta 4 and the Spar lot on Ulica 15. maja give a free window of 60 to 90 minutes before the hourly rate starts. They suit a short shopping or lunch stop on that side of town.
Parking along Ankaranska cesta and Ankaranska cesta shops: Za Barko, Park Center Koper and Supernova
Za Barko on Ankaranska cesta, with 279 spaces, has a summer schedule running daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a winter schedule that ends earlier, so it suits a daytime visit rather than an evening one. KZ Agraria on Ulica 15. maja runs 24/7 with the first 90 minutes free, and the market lot inside the barriers is the central option that never closes.
Beyond the managed blue spaces, a cycling-tourism summary notes a macadam lot near Žusterna and asphalt lots near the stadium or the harbour – Mandrač, a reasonable fallback if you arrive from the motorway and the central garages are full. That page marks its prices as informative, so read the posted price list at the entrance before you leave the car.
What each lot costs: first-hour and subsequent-hour rates in EUR
Rates in the center run from free for the first hour at Tržnica to 2.50 EUR from the first hour at Ukmarjev trg, with most lots charging between 0.50 and 2.00 EUR for the first hour and 1.00 to 2.00 EUR for each hour after. Trg Brolo charges 2.00 EUR per hour with no free window, and the lot behind the bank on Pristaniška ulica starts at 1.00 EUR for the first hour.
At the shopping centers the clock works the other way: Park Center Koper is free for up to 180 minutes and then 3.00 EUR per hour, Supernova 2 is free for 90 minutes and then 2.00 EUR per hour, and Spar is free for 60 minutes and then 2.00 EUR. KZ Agraria gives 90 free minutes and then charges 1.00 EUR per hour, and no subscription parking is allowed at the commercial sites.
Hours, weekend and holiday rules, and the summer and winter schedules
Three lots stay open 24/7: Tržnica inside the barriers, Ukmarjev trg and the primary-school garage, so these are the ones to use if your visit runs into the evening. Trg Brolo, Vergerijev trg, the bank lot and Novi zdravstveni dom close around 7 p.m., which rules them out for anything after dinner.
Several schedules are explicitly seasonal: Vergerijev trg and Novi zdravstveni dom run their summer timetable from 26 April to 29 September and their winter timetable from 30 September to 25 April, and Za Barko also switches between a summer and a winter version. Winter schedules can end earlier in the afternoon, so plan accordingly on a short winter day.
Weekend exemptions are lot-specific: Park Center Koper is free on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays during its posted hours, Supernova 2 is free on Sundays and holidays, and the cycling summary describes the market town, Stadium Bonifika and Pristaniška ulica as free on weekends and holidays. Ukmarjev trg, by contrast, charges the same rate on Saturdays and Sundays.
Paying for Koper parking: EasyPark, SMS parking and coin machines
Marjetica Koper accepts the EasyPark app, with each lot carrying its own EasyPark zone code, and also offers SMS parking, both of which log your payment in the control system so no ticket needs to sit on the dashboard. The cycling summary adds that the machines there take coins but not banknotes, so keep some change if you plan to pay at a meter.
The municipal tourism office notes that a 7-day tourist parking pass is available and can be purchased through the EasyPark app, which is worth considering if you plan several days based in Koper rather than a single afternoon.
Parking a motorhome in Koper
Koper has two designated motorhome areas on Kolodvorska cesta: a night lot with 37 spaces charging a flat 20.00 EUR for 24 hours from registration, and a day lot with 9 spaces whose parking window runs from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Neither accepts subscription parking, so a motorhome cannot simply take over a standard blue-marked car space.
Which lot to pick if you are visiting for two hours versus a full day
For a two-hour look at the old town, Tržnica inside the barriers is the guide's first pick: the first hour is free, the location is close to the market and the lanes of the old center, and you pay by app or coins when you go over. If Tržnica is full, the primary-school garage is open 24/7 and charges a low first-hour rate, so it rarely leaves you circling.
For a full day with lunch and a walk along the waterfront, the park-and-ride sites and the Belveder garage that the municipality lists at the city entrance avoid the tightest central streets. If you are heading onward to the countryside, Hrastovlje Church of the Holy Trinity is a short detour from the routes inland and easy to combine with a morning in town.
Parking in Koper with a bike or as a day-tripper
If you arrive by car with a bike on the roof, the cycling summary points riders coming from the Dekani motorway tunnel toward these lots, which sit closest to the starting point on that approach. Read the posted price list at the lot you choose, since the hourly rates on that page are given as informative.
Which lot should you drive to first?
Start with Tržnica inside the barriers for a short central visit, switch to the primary-school garage or the Arena Bonifika garage when you need a 24-hour lot in the center, and use the commercial lots on Ankaranska cesta only for a timed shopping or lunch stop. Set up EasyPark or SMS parking before you drive in so you can pay and extend without hunting for coins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is parking free in Slovenia's coastal towns?
Not generally. In Koper, individual lots set their own rules: some give a free first window of 30, 60 or 90 minutes, several commercial lots are free on Sundays or holidays, and others charge from the first hour. Read the price list posted at the entrance to the lot you choose.
Where can I park for free in Koper?
The cited schedules show free windows rather than free all-day parking. Tržnica inside the barriers gives the first 60 minutes free, Park Center Koper up to 180 minutes, KZ Agraria and Supernova 2 90 minutes, and Spar 60 minutes; several of these lots waive charges entirely on Sundays or holidays. Outside those windows the hourly rate applies.
